Get involved at Anastasia State Park

Want to give back to the community and help maintain the natural beauty of Anastasia State Park? A variety of volunteer positions and opportunities are always available!

Before beginning your volunteering adventure at Anastasia State Park you must create and submit an application in the Florida State Parks Volunteer Portal and be approved by our Park Service Specialists. There are four different avenues you can take to become involved:

  1. Volunteer with the Friends of Anastasia State Park:
    Join the Friends group, as an official member of the Citizen Support Organization (CSO) for the Park. Contribute to the Friends of Anastasia (FOA) community awareness programs and/or set up a FOA Information Booth at the Park for special events. Volunteer at the Endless Summer Run, Ocean Kids Day, Beach and Roadside Cleanups. Participate in Friends Helping Friends Events, membership recruitment, and serve on multiple special project  committees.

  2. Volunteer directly at Anastasia State Park:
    You can lend a hand in field work to maintain trails, clean and prepare camp site facilities, maintenance/painting, and groundskeeping. Help to control invasive plants through our management program. You can assist at the ranger station helping to keep the park and its programs running smoothly. Our Volunteer Coordinator, Bruce Cathcart will contact you by email to give you detailed information and to guide you through the volunteer registration process. All volunteers must be approved by our Park Service Specialists after completing an online application at Florida State Parks Volunteer Portal prior to doing any volunteer hours.
  3. Volunteer as a Bird Steward at Anastasia State Park:
    Bird Stewards help protect the birds and share information about them with beachgoers. If you are interested in becoming a Bird Steward at Anastasia State Park, they are needed during the breeding season of May through August. Anastasia State Park hosts nesting colonies of Least Terns, Wilson Plovers, Black Skimmers and occasional American Oystercatchers.   4. Volunteer as a Resident Campground Host at Anastasia State Park:
    Campground Hosts perform on-site work in cleaning and preparing campsites and campground facilities for our registered campers. In addition, they provide general park information to guests and work on special projects as determined by management. The hosts are provided with their own temporary campsite residence in return for these regularly scheduled duties. Resident Campground Host requests must though our Park Services Specialist. Since 2000, the Friends Group has generated resources to provide public education programs and quality recreation, and assists employees protect for enjoyment of future generations and educate the public about the natural and cultural resources of Anastasia State Park.
